Mallu in Lulu Mall........aka Dhoni
Lunch Time Musings.......
Once again the ''Chris Gayle factor'' has helped the West Indies to register a convincing win over a formidable Indian team. I have got to admit, this may feel strange as well as highly hypothetical to many of you. It would be hard to precisely define what would have gone wrong for India since we all know, in the game of cricket nothing can be predicted. But at the same time we should admit that, the Indian fielding which was collectively outstanding throughout the tournament was an absolute joke yesterday.
India was comfortably sitting on the top after their top order batsmen have contributed in some way or the other to give their bowlers a decent score to defend. But then came the Gayle factor. I simply think that the team India would have definitely spend a reasonable time and resources in formulating strategic initiatives needed to tame the rampant Chris Gayle in the Semifinals but were so obsessively involved in it that they simply neglected or paid little attention to the other powerful yet not so lionised batsmen of West Indian side. By the time Chris Gayle was eventually got out off an incredible delivery that has been termed as '' ball of the tournament by one of the commentator, things went awry for Indians. It was during this time they began to grow complacent about their imminent win. Field placement gone dismal which allowed the batsmen to score a lot of boundaries through edges. The genius of Dhoni in using his smartness to the fullest extend when it comes to field placement was not there to be seen. Responding in a new way to a new batsman which is crucial for any team ti win in international cricket has not been there. As a matter of fact, they seems to have put no research into it. Suddenly, all those electrifying fielders in Indian side turned out to be at the wrong places as the captain was behaving like a '' mallu in lulu mall'', devoid of ideas.....Yesterday, I most sincerely felt that, if Chris Gayle had lasted for a few more overs struggling with those meticulously planned deliveries from Indian bowlers supported by those brilliantly placed fielders, things would have been in favour of India..........Any way better luck next time........
