JAI MAHABALI...JAI HARTHAL
As Kerala observed one more dawn
to dusk harthal (Har Jagah Par Tala )today, I extend my gratitude and
appreciation to all those who made it a grant success. Any way, we mallus celebrate our festival of
“HARTHAL” with much passion and enthusiasm just to compensate for the days we
normally miss during our national festival of Onam, a time you will find us
intensely engaged in helping the global companies to clear out their old stock.
But then, by celebrating harthal, we try our best to ensure that our beloved
king Mahabali’s principles that are portrayed explicitly in the much famous
song “Maveli Nadu Vanidum Kalam….”are strictly followed in its true spirit and
in real code. I hope my translation would help my non-mallu friends to
understand the lyrics.
Maveli nadu vanidum kalam (
during the reign of king Mahabali) ,
Maanusharellarum Onnupole (
Everyone was equal- here you see, in a day when all offices and establishments
are closed, there is no gainsaying the fact that there are no bosses or
subordinates on this day-All are equal...right?)…
Amodhathode vasikkum kaalam
(people were joyful and merry- you won’t believe, we mallus gleefully float
around on cloud nine the whole day as if we are abnormal)..
Aapathangaarkkumottilla thanum (
people were all free from harm- think yaar, with no vehicles on road and we are all safe inside our houses,
shoving our national food “porottachikenfry’’
down our food pipe as if we are starving all the time, what harm are you
talking about...eh? )
Kallaparayum Cherunazhiyum
kallatharangal Mattonnumilla ( measures and weights were right and there were
no unfair or deceptive business acts or practices. - Ok, listen, any
shop owner who dare open their outlet on
a harthal day, we make him sell rock stones and bricks the very next day...,
what do you think..Ah? And hence there
is no question of anyone cheating of exploiting you)
Kallavumilla chathiyumilla
ellolamilla polivachanam (there was neither lies nor deceit and no one was
false in speech either- ..ok , now come to the point, during harthal days, all
politicians take off and go to their in-law's house. And obviously as you have
no offices, schools or clubs functioning on a harthal day, our women folk get
little or no chance to gather and gossip
on this day. Helloww....is there anybody in there...? )
Maveli nadu vaneedum kaalam
manusharellarum onnupole...
Jai Mahabali...Jai
Harthal....!!
